Mason Woods

WHERE WE'RE LOCATED:
Mason Woods is located in Whately Massachusetts just west of the Connecticut River Valley and has received a limited stewardship of 125 acres of some of the most prime lumber growing land in the area. Our native lumber species include Red, Black, and White Oak, Sugar Maple, Ash, Sycamore, Black, Yellow, and White Birch, Beech, Shagbark Hickory, Cottonwood, Hemlock, and Eastern White Pine. Our approach to utilizing these resources is to provide for a forest that will renew itself and produce timber continually. Our harvesting techniques produce far less environmental impact than the industry standard and our desire is to pass this mindset on to our grandchildren.

WHAT WE DO:

Though we do harvest our own trees, we do not sell lumber. We subscribe to the added value principles of the wood industry. We feel it gives us the most control over our final products and provides our customers with the highest quality work possible. We have direct control over the entire process with an on site sawmill, two dry kilns, and mill shop facilities. And even though following these principles tend to keep us a small company we feel and we think our customers would agree that it’s worth it.

We also have extensive knowledge in working with North American antique and salvaged timbers and are more than happy to re-use what was once used, in the creation of historically beautiful pieces. Our craftsmen have experience with these materials in everything from salvaged floors to antique building materials to furniture and cabinetry.

OUR HISTORY:
Edward Mason and his son Tony originally founded Mason Woods in 1984. Since then it has grown into a group of craftsmen, including third generation Christopher Mason, who specialize in highly custom woodworking of all types. We work in all types of woods including reclaimed materials and have produced an array of custom products such as cabinetry, furniture, mantles, entryways, doors, columns, flooring, moldings, timber frame components and more.

We continue to produce specialty furniture and flooring products made of antique materials to high-end markets in New York and Connecticut. We welcome sales “to the industry” of architects, designers and custom builders as well as to the general public. All of our work is produced with the same quality, attention to detail and friendly customer service.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:
Our principal philosophy is one that practically and honestly acknowledges that all that we have , facilities, tools, materials, resources, and most importantly each other, have been given to us for only a time by God. That with His help we can make the most of every opportunity afforded us to fulfill our creative “image” in ways that are good and right, to love God and our fellow man.

Our business philosophy is measured as one that maintains an adequate profit margin and enriches the lives of those who contribute to the success of the company. Its effectiveness would be bigger than the sum of its parts, and should have a purpose greater than itself. Our helpful service would extend not only to our customers but to our vendors as well. It recognizes that their success lends to ours. Our responsibilities include maintaining cooperative and helpful relationships to our neighbors, the community at large and the environment.
